I've just got to recommend netvibes.com for home page. I use it for email, all my blogs, and even weather and movie times. It can bring all your usual sites onto one page that is fully customizable. It saves me like 30 mins a day in what would be browsing to check updates, even if there are none.

I agree, I have been an avid netvibes user for the past year. However, I have shifted my RSS feeds over to Google Reader. I find that it is significantly easier to rip through feeds when they are laid out list style and shortkeys are available. Everything else though, such as goals, lists and widgets are still on netvibes.

I just downloaded the pageaddict extension for firefox. It tells you how much time you spend at particular websites. You can even add tags such as "games" for addictinggames.com and atari.com that will allow you to limit your game playing time to only a few hours (ha!) of your day. After that, pageaddict will display a screen saying get back to work. So far today, my time has been mostly spent at GMail (18 minutes), cubicleescapeartist.com (13 mins), hostmonster.com (7 mins), typepad.com (6 mins), and alibaba.com (5 mins). Not too bad... keep in mind that my total online time has been 97 minutes. I'm still not sure on the time periods though, whether it goes daily or keeps a cumulative, or only by session. I've been looking for something like this for a while, and it seems like it will be useful.

First of all I think you should define your definition of productive, yet in the context of the social network it's obvious (still a reminder does wonders).

A great website for improve your lifestyle and getting things done that you think are important is the site zenhabits.net that gives out great content and even a beginner's guide to removing unwanted junk that wastes your productivity time that could be invested elsewhere more important.
